Not quite that bad but the wind is picking up quite a bit. From the North which is unusual. High tide too so going to be some salt-spray onto the deck. Did a quick run out to make sure I had retrieved all my yard tools - get them out of harm's way. Quick spritz of WD-40 on the shears and lopping saw as a precaution until I can tend to them properly.
Forecast is calling for a small craft advisory:
Small Craft Advisory until WED 6:00 AM PDT
Affected Area
Northern Inland Waters Including The San Juan Islands and Admiralty Inlet
Description
...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM PDT WEDNESDAY...
In Admiralty Inlet, northwest winds 15 to 25 kt. In the Northern Inland Waters, south winds 15 to 30 kt.
Ten knots is about 11.5 miles per hour. Definitely seeing that range - steady 10 and gusts to 20mph.
Knots tie into navigation as one nautical mile is equal to one minute of arc on the Earth's equator. 360 degrees, each degree is divided into 60 minutes. For smaller measurements, each minute is divided into 60 seconds of arc. The interrelations of timekeeping, navigation and geometry (and spherical trigonometry once you get off the equatorial plane) are beautiful. Sparse. Elegant.
