Video compression
Interesting use of technology and the need for more bandwidth from
DefenseTech. Noah points to an article in the
NY Times on a small Scottish company that has developed the way to radically compress video. The issue here is that the military is making increased use of UAV's and wants to get live video feeds from all of these. Video is very bandwidth intensive and the networks are becoming overloaded. Compressing the signal would be a boon since you would not have to retrofit the entire battlefield LAN, only change the cameras and the receivers.
