Went into town early, had dinner at a local brewpub that we both like, drove around town for a little bit -- checked out a few art galleries -- and then went over to the Mount Baker theater for Robert Irvine's show.
Neither of us had any idea of what to expect but it was a lot of fun -- two and a half hours of cooking 'challenges' with members of the audience.
There was this very hokey 'computer' that would 'randomly' issue a challenge that Robert had to win -- fifteen minutes to cook a dish but within that fifteen minutes, he had to escape from a strait jacket. He brought 30 kids up on stage and made them all PB&J sammiches but he had to do this while suspended upside down.
His final challenge was to cook a meal with a member of the audience but they were handcuffed front to back with the audience member in the front.
He also called out all members of the Military of which Lulu is one. Another volunteer from the audience came up and sang America the Beautiful as the audience sang along. Very nice voice too! All the proceeds from his merch counter went to a military charity and although we know about his show Restaurant: Impossible, what neither of us knew (and it's not mentioned on the show), is that he also builds and renovates soup kitchens and kitchens for homeless.
He built a huge community kitchen in Joplin, MO after the tornado wiped it off the map. A lot of fun and my respect for the man increased a lot on knowing just how much he gives back to both the Military and Civilian communities.
