Terry Schiavo update

I had written about Terry's plight here before and her parents have an excellent website with videos of her responding to things in the room and interacting with people. Whatever her husband may say, she is not brain dead, damaged yes but dead no. On March 10th (last Thursday), a businessman stated that he would give Terry's husband One Million Dollars if he would drop his attempts to have her killed and transfer custodial care to her parents. The businessman is Mr. Robert Herring, Sr. and he is being represented by Attorney Gloria Allred. Here are some excerpts from Ms. Allred's statement:
We are here today to announce that our client, Robert Herring, Sr., is making an offer to Terri Schiavo's husband, Michael Schiavo, which could save Terri's life.

Terri Schiavo is currently in a coma in Florida. Michael Schiavo has asked the court for permission to disconnect her feeding tube, which would result in her death. Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schiavo, have opposed the request. After a long court battle the court has set March 18, 2005 for the removal of Terri's feeding tube.
And the offer:
He contacted me and retained my law firm to convey the following offer to Terri's husband. If Mike Schiavo agrees to transfer the legal right to decide all of Terri's current and future medical decisions to Terri's parents, then Mr. Herring will pay Mr. Schiavo the amount of 1 million dollars (subject to court approval of Terri's parents as her conservators or guardians).

The million dollars was deposited into my law firm's client trust account yesterday and this morning we communicated this million dollar offer in writing to Mr. Schiavo's attorney.

This offer will remain open until Monday, March 14, 2005 at 5:00 p.m.
Emphasis mine - this is not an if/maybe/some-time-in-the-future sort of offer, the cash is sitting in the lawyers trust account now and the offer times out this Monday. Mr. Schiavo, please take this and give Terry a chance at some sort of life. Don't let your personal greed overshadow what is right... The Blog Straight Up with Sherri has been covering this issue -- Sherri is down in Florida now working to try to save Terry. One of her guest authors posted this update to the Herring offer and a reader had an interesting comment to make... Here is Sherri's guest author:
Felos calls Herring offer "offensive".
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

George Felos, attorney for Michael Schiavo, tells Robert Herring, a oncerned California businessman, that the latter's offer of One Million Dollars to let Terri Schiavo live is "offensive". This is the official response to a story highlighted by Sherri on Thursday evening.
And the two readers comments that made me go Hmmmm...
  1. No, it's not the money Schiavo wants, he's trying to stop Terri from spilling something she knows about him.
  2. I couldn't agree more. I suspect that what is really going on in MS's mind is...."God Forbid Terri regains enough verbal skills to say "He did this" while pointing at Michael. No amount of money is worth the death penalty!!!!

from the beginning I did not believe Michael. To listen to him talk, in my gut, he was lieing. They say he gave up 1,000,000 dollars, well I'm sure there is a movie deal in there somewhere. I am a parent, and I am so shocked that there are so few rights for parents. It's scarry. No matter where you are in all of this, where was the true harm in letting her parents take care of her? I truely feel that once Michael remarried, he forfieted his rights once he married another woman. He has nerve. Unbelievable nerve!

No words in my mind could ever take the place for the way i feel in my heart for Terri's parents and family. Im totaly embarrased by the way the court system works and by the way Terri's husband acted. This week has been going backwards every since the hearings. We the people, for the people, by the people. What ever happened to that? My prayers and thoughts are with the parents and the family. Take care and never forget........ Paul Moore

If Terry Schiavo dies, Michael should be convicted of murder. Terry NEEDS TO TALK and tell us what happened. If the Supreme Court ok's it to let this woman live, then her sealed medical records can be opened.

When did hearsay evidence become the letter of law? This is a very dangerous precident. Just another step down for the morality of this country. Where will it all end? I feel so sorry for young people going forth into the sewer our society is becoming.

what is happening to us? the GREAT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. it didnt take us long to get over the feelings we were all having after 9/11, of helping one another, taking care of one another, pulling together as one. what a joke we as a country have become. The statement God Bless America doesnt stand true. God is not blessing a country that allows the things that we as a country are allowing to happen. We better all think about that. it is a total shame that a judge can sit up there and ok us to murder another human being. all i have been doing is watching CNN and other news shows, pulling for terry all the way. she is a beautiful woman, who in my opinion doesnt look like someone that wants to die. if that were the case she would have already died. she is a fighter, seems to me has a strong will to live. i dont understand why m. schiavo wont just let her parents take over and move on with his own life. if indeed this was her wishes he is keeping, then why is he waiting 15 years to "pull the plug"??? seems if he was going to abide by her wishes, he wouldn't have allowed the tube inserted in the first place....hmmmmm. he keeps cutting her family for all that they are doing, i was hoping larry king last night would have asked him what he would do if it was one of his children that was fighting for their life.
I am praying for Terry and her family.

Terry Schiavo is alive,She needs therapy
which she was deprived of by her supposed husband
who has broken his marriage vows and according
to his christian upbringing,is living in
sin, this man is not credible, why doesn't he do the right thing and give Terry Schiavo to someoone who loves her, Her parents.

[In response to Brooke Herring]
PLEASE PASS ON HEARTFELT THANX TO YOUR GRANDFATHER FOR HIS OFFER
[On The Subject]
....WE CAN ONLY HOPE MICHAEL SCHIAVO {-SINCE THE OFFER'S ALL BUT DECLINED-} AND ALONG WITH HIM, "JUDGE" GREER, GO THROUGH A LONG TORTUROUS PAINFUL DEATH N-O-T OF THEIR OWN DOING. N-O-O-N-E HAS THE RIGHT TO KILL. I AGREE MSCHIAVO HAS SOMETHING TO HIDE AS TERRI IS NO BURDEN TO HIM. HE DOESNT GO SEE HER~HE WONT EVEN FIX HER WHEELCHAIR SO SHE CAN BE WHEELED OUTSIDE!~THE $s ARE THERE EXCLUSIVELY FOR TERRI'S CARE -WHY THE HELL ARE THEY NOT BEING USED FOR HER CARE?!!!!~U DO ALL REALISE HE'S BEEN HANDED SPECIAL PERMISSION THRU THE COURTS TO DIP INTO TERRI'S INSURANCE $s TO PAY FOR HIS LEGAL BILLS -WHAT AN ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY! MSCHIAVO AND GREER NEED TO BE HANDED TO THE PUBLIC TO DO WITH AS THEY SEE FIT (HUNG-DRAWN-QUARTERED COMES TO MIND) ....I NEVER WISH BAD KARMA ON ANYONE, BUT FOR THESE 2 I WISH ONLY THE WORST LIFE CAN OFFER ....MAY THEY GO THRU EVERY HURTFUL DEMORALISING EXPERIENCE WE CAN CONJURE UP .......ANY IDEAS???

Does anyone have Mike Schiavo's address or phone number?

Being a Catholic, I think her husband would face living in sin not married and having two children while in this state, then to go ahead and divorce her and face excommunication from the church. I say cut his rights and give her the therapy and help she needs. Take the money and run while you have a chance.
I have heard that death by starvation can take a very long time, it is not instantaneous like a pet being put to sleep humanely. Shame on the judge for even agreeing to go along with this while she is up and moving and does not appear to be in an unmoving state, unresponsive state.

I see Collin Chandler with a few interesting comments.... Hmmmmm - #1.Best interests aka/ the public... One would generally use their head if asked to commit suicide.. #2.A mother and or father brought the child into the world, i believe that in that case, the parents have a different but stronger love for that child and would jump off the end of the world if needed to help, im not saying the husband or wife wouldnt but the parents would go abit more. #4. The husband is guarenteed, tired of hanging on to once was his wife. Im sure he just wants to move on with whatever. #5. All views matter. Just because we disagree, doesnt mean we all dont want the same thing. We all would love to see Terri come out and make a full recovery but in this case, it would be a long shot. This will be my last post - Thank you..

This is absolutely ridiculous. Terri's parents have offered him 700,000 before, and he didn't take it. Why would he take 1,000,000? This is clearly not about the money. Also, how could he have done this? Did he slowly take pottasium from her body day by day without her realizing, and as she collapsed she realized "Oh my, my pottasium is low, must have been Michael!" It's ridiculous. She has been in a persistant vegitative state for 15 years.

Brooke asks if the law makers would want to have their children taken off feeding tubes because they don't want their children harmed. What about what the child wants? I personally would not want to live 15 years in a bed with a tube down my throat. I also want to believe, if my child has the same desire, I wouldn't force the food down his or her throat.

Paul says the public has the best interest of Terri in mind, so we should do as the public believes. What if the public believed that you should commit suicide, should you go jump off the first bridge you see? Also, you say that the husband or wife should not have a say in the life of a husband or wife, and it should be in the hands of the parents. Why is that? It has been clearly stated that the courts have ruled Terri would have wanted to die by Michael's, and many other people's testimony, while the parents have testified she never discussed this with them. What if the parents don't have the best interest in mind, and they are prepared to gain significantly from her life. Michael is not in it for the money, or he would have taken the 700,000 and 1,000,000 offers. Clearly the Schindlers have gained significantly, as the fight has made them at least 700,000 richer.

Jeannie, you say we do not do this for animals? Clearly you do not know much about veternarian practices. Euthanasia is a very common practice. By keeping a girl who should already be dead alive through a feeding tube, we are playing god. There is no way of knowing what god wants with Terry, as we keep her a live through synthetic life. Why would she come out with flying colors? People don't just wake up with a new cerebrum. That's right, in case you don't know, she has no cerebrum left, it has been eaten away by her condition. Even if she were to become aware (which has been deemed impossible because of severe brain damage) she would have no use of most of her body. She would be like a chicken with it's head cut off.

Anyways, end rant.

I see nothing wrong with his offer, at least he cares on whether or not terry lives or not, which is more than what her husband is doing for her. The husband either is after the money, or is afraid of what she might say if she gets better. If she is alert and only needs a feeding tube, what is that saying about all the people that cant live with out oxygen masks--take them away? Dont think so. There are many people alive that depend on different things to live such as oxygen, feeding tubes, bed ridden etc. i could see maybe taking it away if she was completely brain dead, and was on total lifesupport but she is not so what i cant understand is why these judges dont give her parents guardianship, and have her husband get out of the picture, I am behind terrys parents and mr herring all the way !!!!!!!!!

From what i have read and what i have seen, Mr. Herring is only doing what he feels the public wants. The public views are in the best interest of Terri Schiavo, meaning if there is hope - take it. I believe that Mr.Herring is acting from the heart and Mr. Schiavo needs to start thinking in those terms. The right to die should not be decided by the husbands or wives, but by the mothers and fathers.
All life decisions are hard, we try to make the correct ones because sometimes there may not be another chance..... Think about it..

I do not understand how Felos can say that my grandfathers offer is offensive, if anything what they are doing to this family and their community is offensive. Honestly, I believe foul play is involved. Just look at the facts here... You would be blind to agree and allow Terri's medical or should I say right to life, be in the hands of a man that just wants to give up. Do these people in Florida's court systems have kids, would they be denying their kids rights to live? Would they pass the rights of their kids life off to some one who just wants them dead...? I think they need to put themselfes in Terri's Familys shoes and think about it from that point of view! This is not a vote to veto or pass a bill or law yet it is a human life much like their own...

Please Mr. Schiavo do cannot kill you x-wife. Let her parents take care of her. We are all praying for Terry to come out of this with flying colors. She is very much alive and Our Lord should be the only one to take her. She is here for a reason. I know you don't understand why, but Our Lord has a plan for her. How cruel to let her starve to death. She has life, let goodness prevail, it is wrong to make her suffer. We would not allow this for animals. Terry is a human being. Think of this Mr. Schiavo what if that was you. Would you want lawmakers to make a decision that your life is not worth it. Especially if your parents wanted to take care of you. NO SIR that is why we should leave this up to GOD to do the right thing, not MAN! My prayers are with all of you especially for Terry. Lord give us a sign and let Terry live.
