I had originally written this post to tease my wife for a coment that she left on another post.
That earlier post was
here and contained a paragraph about my cooking dinner using Beef from our new half-cow.
Jen's comment:
I have to say, marrying a man who can COOK was the smartest move of my life!
I'm never going to lose weight if he keeps cooking like this.
Hence, this post about moving over to a diet of Bread and Water. Jen got the joke because her comment to
this post was:
The hell we are! The garden's producing, we have meat in the freezer... Dave can do the bread and water thing. I'm gonna eat.
Tonights dinner? Hamburgers. Seared on each side for a few minutes on a hot gas grill and then turn the heat down and cook for a few minutes more. You don't normally think of hamburger as being tender but this stuff sure is. The flavor was amazing too. Jen's thought over dinner was that going back to supermarket beef would really suck. My thought was that we should call the farmer and reserve a steer for sometime late-spring of 2007.
I really appreciate people's concern over my "impending diet" but it was a joke with my wife and not anything I was going to take seriously.

Found a new lifestyle that sounds really interesting...
It is said that spending 120 days eating nothing but bread and water gives a person incredible mental acuity.
Jen and I will be doing this over the next few months -- I'll keep you all posted on the results.
Dave,
FYI. One other point. Dont ever try to eat boiled bran with yogurt for an entire day. After a few days of suffering I spent a day of hospital- time to remove 2 cups of insoluble bran from my intestines. I only ate three cups so they sometimes sell a lot more insoluble bran in organic brans than anyone will ever admit.
My best to you,
Al
PS After recovering a-lot from my diabetes-heart disease-beriberi-scurvy-pellagra problems I can truthfully say the best CRONed nutrition Ive come up with yet is eating a-lot of boiled spinach, lentils and liver [ecchh for some]. I think boiling the store- bought spinach would extract and vaporize a great deal of the pesticides [if it is store- bought its one of the highest pesticide foods there is in America as per <> http://www.foodnews.org/fulldataset.php <>] but most importantly for me was that boiling made it easier to digest larger amounts to get more nutrients out of the process. One last thought for now, if you eat a lot of liver you might want to test yourself for elevated cholesterol levels after radically changing your diet for several days. When I went from no eggs or liver to 12 eggs and 6oz of liver a day for a month my ~$10 cholesterol test from Walgreens went up from 195 to 199 which was acceptable both times, albeit boiled eggs are high in fat & cholesterol and are not the best via CRON diet standards, it was easy on my digestion. After being a supplement/slim-fast addict that likely partially destroyed my liver with all the "synthetic enrichments", eating nutritionally dense foods healed me as it has also healed many many others of heart-disease, diabetes, scurvy, beriberi, and pellagra. My best to you for your health choices, Al
Dave,
Just browsing the net for "scurvy AND bread" and got your BLOG.
FYI - Perhaps if you use a-lot of bran, like 7 cups vs 1 cup of flour, in a "yeasted" bread it would make more nutrition- per- calorie than skim milk?
There are some people who follow CRON Diets [Calorie Restricted Optimal Nutrition] "similar" to something like this.
I've wondered about eating a CRONed "bread" [not like a flour bread since it would have a cornbread texture] ground up in a watered down shake as a sole nutrition for several weeks, but I think it would have to be supplemented with boiled spinach and lentils to get 100% RDAs of the folate, iron, and calories your body would be "needing" to stay healthy and not get scurvy, beriberi, or pellagra.
Id also recommend organic as much as possible.
My best to you,
Al

Please tell me you are kidding...!
It'll give you scurvy, anyway. There is no vitamin C in bread.
