As it should be - Paris Hilton department

She was caught and sentenced. She appealed and this is the reaction she got. From Arizona Central:
Paris' pardon plea laughed out of governor's office
Paris Hilton's pardon plea to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been laughed out of his office.

The hotel heiress appealed to her fans to sign a petition after she was sentenced to 45 days in jail for driving with a suspended licence and sent it to the actor-turned-politician.

But calls to Arnie's office inquiring about the petition were met with mockery.
A bit more:
Paris' mother Kathy Hilton is furious her daughter has been given a jail term.

She told the USA Today newspaper, "This is pathetic and disgusting, a waste of taxpayers' money with all this nonsense. This is a joke."

The 45-year-old even implied the judge only decided to jail Paris to become famous.

When the judge sentenced the socialite, Kathy laughed out loud and blurted, "May I have your autograph?"

When Judge Michael T. Sauer walked into his parish church on Saturday, the day after sentencing Paris, he was greeted by rapturous applause.

"Well, Boss, with the election coming up, it's time to get your name out there in the press again."

"I agree! Any suggestions?

"Well, the public always loves to see celebs nailed to the cross. Remember Rosie's Chinese 'ching-chong' impersonation a few months ago? That was clearly a Sinophobic hate crime if ever there was one."

"Nah, too politically charged. What else?"

"Well, we could nail Britney for those crotch shots. That's indecent exposure, sure enough."

"No, just having to look at that horrid C-section scar should be punishment enough for anyone. I cannot, in good conscience, let innocent jurors be exposed to hours and hours of it."

"A good stand, Boss. Okay, I got it. Paris did some boo-boo with her car the other day, I don't know the details, but it might have technically violated the probation she's on."

"Okay, look into it."

(one week later)

"Boss! Great news! We got Paris hung out to dry! We got the right judge and we're talkin' jail time!"

"Outstanding!"

"The photo-op is set for five o'clock."

"We're on our way!"

Personally, I think her mom got it right. I've always felt witch hunts were the most disgusting part of America.

It's the delay that bothers me. If they'd hauled her cute buns off to the slammer right away, then we could all piously sit around and claim how rich, famous people aren't above the law.

But they didn't.

When you start seeing newspaper articles debating the issue before an arrest has even been made, that's when it's time to be suspicious. This is a pretty black and white case. Either one must go to jail for the offense, or not. And, if not, then why make her? Do you want the law to punish those who deserve real punishment, or because some zealous D.A. wants to 'make a point'?

Haven't we had ENOUGH of zealous D.A.s for a while?

This was a witch hunt, pure and simple. And, while I don't recall the details, my feeling is that the first infraction was kind of trumped-up, too. For a huge city ridden with crime, focusing on a silly, ditzy little party girl seems massively out of perspective.

And her mom got something else right, too.

"The 45-year-old even implied the judge only decided to jail Paris to become famous."

And, sure enough, two paragraphs later:

"he was greeted by rapturous applause."

I'll say this about Paris. She may not be the best & brightest of American icons, but at least she's just silly and naive. As referred to, say, the hate preached by rap music, or the lies of politicians. I can think of much better role models for the kids than Paris Hilton, but I can also think of much worse.
