Something missing from the picture perfect wedding

Chelsea Clinton is getting married in a very lavish ceremony. The cake alone is over $10,000. From the London Daily Mail:

What caught my eye is that the President and the First Lady were not invited. If they showed up, it would take away from the couple's ceremony and it would seriously inconvenience the guests with the required screening but... The polite thing to do would be to issue an invitation and the Obama's would politely decline citing a previous obligation on the golf course, send them a nice gift and that would be that -- protocol would have been served. Not inviting Obama and his family highlights the deep rift between the two families. 2012 is going to be an interesting year...
