I knew that Rocky and Sam were old but I didn't expect one of them to go so soon.
I was away yesterday putting the radio station in the firehall and came home around 6:00PM - the two of them came up to the kitchen door for their nightly treat - a couple carrots each.
Had someone working at the house this morning, repairing the tires on Buttercup the Tractor and he left around noon. As I was walking up to open the gate for him, I noticed that Rocky was acting a bit strange - just standing halfway in the barn door looking at me. After I closed the gate for the tire guy, I walked over and found Sam lying dead. Rocky came over - it was almost as if he was asking me to fix his friend. I can do a lot of things but the reanimation of a much loved mule is - sadly - not one of them.

So sorry to hear about Sam the Mule, Dave. At least his last days were happy ones with you caring for him.
