Got some cables made and cleaned up my go-kit a bit. I will be doing radio for one leg of the Ragnar Relay race this Friday, July 15th. Did it last year so should be a piece of cake.
The go-kit is two radio sets mounted on a board which fits into a plastic cargo box. I can just grab it, another smaller cargo box with my cables, some tools and stuff and finally, a car battery to run everything. We set up a radio net and check in with net control when we arrive. We will also be relaying the status of the race - when the first runner comes through our checkpoint as well as forwarding any medical needs to the first-aid tent at each checkpoint and at the end of the day, the last runner. At that point, we tear down, pack up and go home. The actual on-air time is pretty minimal so it's a great venue for people watching and ham radio outreach.
I also picked up a couple LED shop lights at Costco (they are having a sale) and will be mounting them in the garage and radio room. I like subdued lighting but sometime you need to be able to flood an area with light.
Dinner tonight is the last of the Costco turkey breast with gravy and mashed potatoes. Salad too.
