Slept like a dream last night - woke up fairly early. Heading out for coffee in a few minutes, pick up some literature to hand out and then to the resource center for a couple hours. Demonstrating ham radio and emergency preparedness - out here in the last ten years, we have had three landslides sufficient to shut down traffic on the main highway, one medium size forest fire and two small earthquakes. Mt. Baker is considered to be an active volcano and there are other areas where landslides have happened on a regular basis. There is an active earthquake fault about five miles away.
The idea of maintaining a three-day store of food and water is a joke out here - it is more like three weeks if not more. You do not have to do this all at once - it is more a matter of buying an extra can of tuna fish or baked beans the next time you are grocery shopping. Picking up a packet of batteries on your next visit to Costco and making sure you have an extra supply of any prescriptions. A couple of books or a deck of cards is not a bad thing either.
