Back when I was trying to recover and reuse some of the older style (DIP through-hole) chips, I would use a propane torch on one side and some pliers on the other.
The method in this video is not for re-using the chips, it is just for removing them from the circuit board to salvage the precious metals from within them. Brilliant idea using an air hammer. I love the Brrrrrrp sound it makes.
