Our Point of Sale system uses cheap touch screens for the registers and they rely on optical scanning to function. One of them stopped working while I was there but fortunately, it was a simple fix - a can of dust-off. There is an array of infrared LEDs just in front of the screen. These are individually cycled on and off a couple hundred times/second and when a fingertip blocks the beam, that position is known and passed to the mouse port of the computer. There was too much crud on the bezel of the display.
The UPS pixies were kind to me today - I had back-ordered some music keyboard stands a couple months ago and they finally arrived. Regular keyboard stands stick out from the wall and take up a lot of floor space. These puppies bolt directly to the wall - nothing touches the floor.
