From ABC News/Associated Press:
Philippines: Last leaders of IS-tied siege killed in Marawi
The two final surviving leaders of a deadly siege in the southern Philippines, including a top Asian terror suspect, were killed Monday in one of the final battles by thousands of troops to retake the last area in Marawi city held by pro-Islamic State group militants, security officials said.
Four military and police officials told The Associated Press that Isnilon Hapilon, who is listed among the FBI's most-wanted terror suspects, and Omarkhayam Maute were killed in a gunbattle and their bodies were found Monday in Marawi.
The Philippines have had a long-standing problem with millitant islamists - they call themselves Moro - dating back to General John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing in 1899. In overall percentages, the islamists represent about 11% of the total population and yet they feel they have the right to 'rebel' against the Roman Catholic majority (82%) and murder them. Not very smart - nothing like living in a culture that chooses to remain in the 9th century.
Making a very good example of what happens when they murder someone is an excellent way to go about it. Live in peace? Fine. Try to overthrow our government and murder non-islamic citizens? You will be killed. End of problem.
