Did another load and drove down after. Turned out to be a nice (if very windy) day today. These round trips are about 160 miles - very do-able.
Look to the North tonight - the Planetary K Index is spiking:
Six or over guarantees an Aurora display at these latitudes (Pacific Northwest - 48.1740° N where I am). NASA's excellent Space Weather site has the information:
GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN PROGRESS: Almost a day later than expected, Earth is entering a stream of solar wind flowing from a large hole in the sun's atmosphere. G1-class geomagnetic storms are in progress. Such storms are considered minor, but they can cause auroras in the USA as far south as a line between Maine and Washington. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for the glow of geomagnetic activity in the midnight sky.
Maybe a chance of seeing an aurora tonight - all too rare at these latitudes.
