Been looking at getting a boat at some point in the future but just want to mess around on the water - not looking for long cruises or bleeding edge performance. Someone turned me on to this design: Puddle Duck Racer
Free plans to build, takes a couple sheets of plywood and can be knocked together in a week or so. Very safe (optional floation compartments) and pretty good performance for either sail or oars. I love to row and sail so this would be a great combination.
Open design but people have adapted camping tents and there is ample room to stretch out so multi-day cruises are not out of the question.
Something to look at seriously for a fall/winter project.
