And back for the evening

The car show was a lot of fun. Smaller but some really interesting vehicles from a wide gamut. Seven photos:

Gorgeous 1935 Auburn touring car - the company did not survive the Great Depression and went bankrupt in 1937. Want one of these? Be prepared to spend at least $100K up to $500K depending on condition. There are some replicas being sold but they start at $50K on up. I love the Art Deco styling. Simply elegant. A sexy beast.

Two friends (husband and wife) collect odd bits of militaria - vehicles, etc... Here is some of their fleet. A half-ton at the back right (it brought in the tent). The tent for the band. There is a reconnaissance vehicle hidden behind the generator trailer (you can see two antennae - whip on the left, stovepipe on the right) and then the generator trailer (power for the band). Over this fall, I will be working with them to restore the three radios on the reconnaissance vehicle and get them on the air. These are Viet Nam era so should be pretty simple to work on and can be tuned to operate on amateur radio frequencies.

There was a really good blues band. Fun music, fun times. And yes, the cute waitress was working today. Had fun chatting with her.

Trip down memory lane - we had one of these when I was in grade school. A Rambler American for sale for only $4,700. Didn't get it but it rekindled some fond memories of long vacations with my Mom and Dad.

This last one was just pure testosterone. A drag racer. They started with a clapped out (daylight through the holes in the floor) Chevy Nova, put about 550 horses into it. No muffler. No exhaust system to speak of. If you look at the far left of the photo at the support for the steering column, you will see two orange spots. Those are the ear plugs. You need them. Two more on the blue bonnet for the shift lever.

All in all, a fun day. The wood shop sale was a bust. No wood scraps and the stuff was overpriced. There was a nice jointer but I can use my router table for the same task. No need for a dedicated piece of equipment taking up floor space. The guy's shop was based around a large Shopsmith setup. I used to own one for about two years and sold it as it was too cumbersome to use. The basic idea is a good one - a substantial base with a power unit and then the various tools attach to the base. The problem is that you can only use one tool at a time and a lot of times, you need to alternate between several tools before finishing your task so swapping back and forth is tiresome. It is a mediocre alternative to two or three simple dedicated stationary tools.

Also did some grocery shopping, got some gas. Had a light dinner (Thai) and two pints at my local.
