Went out for the usual coffee &c and then went to see the Art by the Bay Festival. A lot of artists I already knew and met some new ones. Great art and a lot of fun. While there, I happened to see a poster for the Sky Valley Stock and Antique Tractor club advertising their show at the Stanwood fairgrounds. New to me for sure. Headed over there and had a great time.
This is the first year they have been at the fair grounds - they had a barn in Monroe, WA where they were based but it burned down last year. This weekend is their 31st annual show. Turnout was a bit light but given the circumstances and poor advertising, I can see why.
Dinner was a delight - met some people from the area and had some wonderful conversations with the farmers and with the other people at the table. Menu was coursed as follows:
Fava Bean Falafel with Lemon Sorrel pesto.
Caprese
Honey Cucumbers with bronze fennel
Frost Peach salad with garden greens and a lemon balsamic vinaigrette
Carrot Ginger soup with golden beets and coconut milk served with
Farmhouse Bread (two kinds) and tulsi basil pesto
Pattypan squash stuffed with cabbage, mushroom, rice and sage
Rosemary roasted potatoes (picked that morning)
Runner Beans grilled with garlic
Gravenstein Apple / Shiro Plum Cake with hand-cranked vanilla ice cream.
Just wow - every dish was 100% spot on. Very happily stuffed. There was a walk around the farm before desert so we got to see what was happening - coming in to season, beds being put to sleep for the fall and winter. Really nice place and nice people. I emphasize the potatoes picked that morning - there is an amazing taste that is lost after a day or two. Fresh spuds are a real treat.
Planning to put in a large garden next year and potatoes are on the list.
