The K-Index is a measure of solar output at a radio frequency. Because they measure a radio frequency, this is immune to overcast and clouds. Usually, it is around 4. If it hits 6 there is a good chance for aurora (the scale is a Base10 logarithm so 6 is 100 times more than 4):

It is just barely ticking over. Unusually quiet.
