Sanctuary cities - Seattle

Seattle station KOMO has a sobering story about an illegal immigrant and how a sensless murder could have been avoided:

ICE challenges King County sanctuary law after another murder
This week, Julio Cruz-Velazquez was in court for the murder of 56-year-old Sam Lam.

Cruz-Velazquez, 25, was arrested Nov. 7 and charged with second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree.

Police said Cruz-Velazquez opened fire on a South Park home early on the morning of Nov. 3, killing Lam who was sleeping inside.

Local officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Cruz-Velazquez was in the country illegally and had history of run-ins with the law.

Assuredly the best and brightest. More:

ICE said they had requested a detainer on two prior arrests, asking to be notified when Cruz-Velazquez was released from jail.

“Had those detainers been honored, or had ICE been notified on any of the other multiple occasions he was arrested and released from local jails, we would have taken him into custody,” Asher said.

But King County has a sanctuary law which prevents local law enforcement from sharing information with federal immigration officials.

Good Lord - how many people have to be killed or injured before we follow the laws of the land and stop virtue signalling. Build the wall. Deport the criminals. Mexico is doing the same thing to us that Fidel Castro did with the Mariel Boatlift. From the link:

The arrival of the refugees in the U.S. created political problems for U.S. president Jimmy Carter, first when his administration struggled to develop a consistent response to the immigrants and then when it was discovered that a number of the refugees had been released from Cuban jails and mental health facilities.

The government of Mexico is more than happy to aid these people in getting across our border - that way, they do not have to take care of them.
