And done - stacking firewood

Went really fast with two people working and once again, the company out-did themselves and sold me more than a full cord of wood. Very happy customer. If you are in the area, Forest Land Services in Stanwood, WA is an excellent company to do business with. Photos:

A cord of firewood is a volumetric measurement of 4' by 4' by 8' or 128 cubic feet.
A rick is 1/3rd of a cord or 16" * 4' * 8' - each of these stands holds one rick.
Here are the first two that we stacked today:

Here is the third - the stand on the right is older firewood. Use that to start a fire and then the new stuff will catch. It is about 90% birch wood and is perfect for long-lasting heat. A bit more expensive but not that much - under $400 delivered for the full cord. I got their "mixed hardwood" last year and it was OK but this is much better and only about $100 more. You are getting three times the heat out of it so the value is obvious.

This was L's first time stacking firewood - she is a natural. The sign of a good rick of wood is if a squirrell has to go around the woodpile instead of through. This one is nice and tight.

Here is what was left over after the full cord - Grace was inspecting this. Bear was feeling a bit camera shy when I took the photo.

All in all, a great and productive day. Last year, it took me three days to get the stuff stacked - amazing what a second pair of hands (and a sweet voice of encouragement) can accomplish.
