On 8 December 2019, the first patient was recorded by Chinese authorities to start showing symptoms. A later Chinese report finds an earlier case on 1 December, pointing to an even earlier origin. Apart from this early case, between December 8 and December 18 seven cases are documented, two of them are linked with the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market of Wuhan, five are not.

Military World Games
The Military World Games is a multi-sport event for military sportspeople, organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The Games have been held since 1995, although championships for separate sports had been held for some years.

That village will be ready to accommodate 12.000 athletes and officials as well as organizing staff in 2019. It is designed in a spirit of eco-sustainability and conviviality for all participants.
Emphasis mine - talk about dodging the bullet. We could have had key military people from all over the world exposed to this debilitating virus and then they would return to their homes. Of course, there would be celebrations and banquets for the returning participants - chance to spread the airborne virus even further especially since it can be contagious for 14 days before the symptoms manifest (and there are reports of 21 days).
If China were looking at wiping out the worlds military strength, I could not think of a better way to do it.
