78% of what? Days in 2020 with no sunspots. For 2019, we had 77% of the days without sunspots. That was a record for solar quietness standing until you go back to 1913 (the very beginning of the modern warm period). We were on track at the beginning of this year but had a cluster of spots at the end of March that set the record back a bit.
Sunspots? They are a great proxy for solar activity and the lower the solar activity, the less energy the sun radiates and the cooler our planet gets. Simple physics. Funny thing that the global warming people will constantly ignore is that the Martian ice caps grow and recede as solar activity changes. Must be all those gas-guzzling SUV's on the red planet.
