Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is habitually rude may constantly accuse other people of being rude. It incorporates blame shifting.

Much more at the site - Projection is one of the major psychological quirks that liberal suffer from a lot more than conservatives. Others include Dunning-Kreuger, the inability to assume responsibilities for one's own actions (rules are for the little guy), the failure to lead, the failure to choose good leaders to lead for you, the inability to make a budget and stick to it, no concept of the future (when the bills come due).
