And today was a bust

Productive day yesterday, not so much today. I am installing some equipment racks in the music room and wanted to put something on the bottoms to not scratch the new hardwood flooring. I had been using peel and press felt pieces but they are quite expensive for what you get. I was thinking that there are carpet squares with repositional adhesive so I would get some of them for the bottoms - put the sticky side on the rack and the carpet side towards the floor.

Lowe's did not have anything like that. One of my most disliked phrases in big-box retail is: "We can order that for you" Excuse me but do I look like I fell off a turnip truck? I can spend some time on the internet and find a broader selection of this thing for a cheaper price. This buzz-word not only offers no information of use to me, it offers no information at all. A waste of time and atmosphere.

Plan B - I looked at their selection of rolled carpet. Picked one out and went to get one foot of it and was told that their carpet machine was not in service. Fine. Home Depot then.

Home Depot had the squares - perfect. The shelving unit these were on had a big sign saying that the items were for sale individually, that they were kept in their boxes for neatness. Fine, I took out four squares and was told that those were only for sale by the box. The other stuff was vinyl flooring. I did not want to spend over $90 on a full box when I only needed a few square feet.

Their roll carpet machine was not in service either.

Finally, went into a place I had driven by but never stopped. Mount Vernon Carpet One. Absolute night and day. They did not have the squares but they did not offer to order them for me. Thank you for respecting my intelligence. They had some carpet in rolls - the sales clerk took be into their warehouse, I picked out something that looked good and I had 12 square feet of it cut for me for under $20. Perfect. Looks like a really awesome company too - in business for 30 years. Woman owned.

My next remodeling project is the kitchen as well as the two bathrooms - guess where I will be going for flooring. They also do tile so the backsplashes are taken care of too. Really nice people.

My final destination was my bank. I use a large bank for my investments and a small local bank for daily life. The branch of Chase I use has been closed down. I was just in Bellingham a few days ago - have to make another trip up there tomorrow.

Stopped off at the farmer's market - too late to do the sous-vide but will to some quick pasta for dinner tonight and do the corned beef tomorrow - more time to marinate.
