Heading towards a long hot summer

The people controlling the rioters bit off more than they can handle. Chauvin might be acquitted after all. If this happens, all kinds of hell will happen as the usual suspects have been priming their constituency. Back on June 7th, I wrote that the state attorney general was overstepping the charges against Officer Chauvin beyond what was called for and I concluded:

My concern is that Ellison is ratcheting up the charge way past what the actual crime was and that in a jury trial, the only verdict would be acquittal for Chauvin. He did not intend to murder Floyd, it was a horrible accident. Chauvin was not observing the situation well enough and the man in his custody died as a result. The autopsy already clears the way for that verdict. Floyd died from a heart attack, he had major drugs in his system.

Ellison will come back and say that black men can never get justice in Amerikka and if we think the riots are bad now, hold my beer. The Democrats are doing everything they can to prevent President Trump from being re-elected. They have no candidate, they have no platform, they have nothing so they must cheat.

Now this morning, I read this excellent analysis from Gavrilo David writing at Medium:

Why Derek Chauvin May Get Off His Murder Charge
The world has united in protest after a graphic video emerged showing a Black man dying under the restraint of a White police officer. The victim, George Floyd, was in clear distress. He was pinned to the ground by three officers, with one officer — Derek Chauvin — placing a knee on his neck. For over five minutes, he tells the officers that he is unable to breathe. George Floyd died as horrified bystanders told the officers they were killing him.

And a bit more:

There are six crucial pieces of information — six facts — that have been largely omitted from discussion on the Chauvin’s conduct. Taken together, they likely exonerate the officer of a murder charge. Rather than indicating illegal and excessive force, they instead show an officer who rigidly followed the procedures deemed appropriate by the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD). The evidence points to the MPD and the local political establishment, rather than the individual officer, as ultimately responsible for George Floyd’s death.

Here are the first two points:

  1. George Floyd was experiencing cardiopulmonary and psychological distress minutes before he was placed on the ground, let alone had a knee to his neck.
  2. The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) allows the use of neck restraint on suspects who actively resist arrest, and George Floyd actively resisted arrest on two occasions, including immediately prior to neck restraint being used.

Much more at the site. This is a long article but really well worth reading as it explores what really happened as opposed to the sensationalized sound bites. George Floyd was no choir boy by a long shot and Officer Chauvin acted according to MPD guidelines. Not a popular sentiment these days but it is the truth regardless.

Glad I do not live in a city - I will be even more glad when the verdict comes out.
