Seattle Mayor caves to protestors, announces they’re cutting the police department budget by $20 million
The mayor of Seattle says it’s official – they’re cutting the budget for the police department amid calls to “defund the police”.
This, despite the fact that insurrectionists have taken over part of the city and blocked out police.
She said it’s time to deal with racism.
In a letter that was leaked to Law Enforcement Today, she said it’s been a long time coming:
We must as a City government reckon with our own legacy of injustice. We work within a system that has helped perpetuate institutional racism and we have work to do to eradicate these failings. For our Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) neighbors, the pain and consequences of this moment are life and death.

They also look at the City Council's decision to ban the use of tear gas and foam projectiles for riot control. Things are not going well in that city - so glad I moved out.
