The major East/West pass here is Interstate 90. It runs from downtown Seattle to downtown Boston Massachusetts. When I moved to Seattle, I made the point of driving every inch of it - there was a traffic light in Wallace, Idaho but that was a few years ago and it is straight freeway now. The highway crews keep it open come hell or high water.
Hell arrived this morning with this little announcement - from the WA State DOT:
RESTRICTIONS WESTBOUND:
Chains required on all vehicles except all wheel drive, Oversize Vehicles Prohibited.
CONDITIONS:
I-90 eastbound is closed at milepost 47, five miles east of the summit due to multiple spin-outs and jack-knifed vehicles. Highway will be closed for approximately two hours until crews can clear disabled vehicles. Estimated time for reopening is 10:15am. There is snow, ice, and slush on the roadway. I-90 in both directions from milepost 47 near Denny Creek, to milepost 71 near Easton, chains are required on all vehicles except all-wheel drive. Oversize vehicles are prohibited.
WEATHER:
Snowing heavy, near white out conditions.
Woke up to a quiet but overcast morning - it is now raining pretty hard. See what happens with the forecast storm...
Going to be a long wet and cold winter.
