Slow couple of days for news. Did a quick trot around the internet and nothing really caught my eye. Doing a trip to the dump and recycling today - dog walk and coffee afterwards. Heading up to get a buffer. The desktop came out really really nice but I want to take it to the next level and buff the top until it is glass smooth.
This was my first time using the homemade wipe-on polyurethane varnish. I took regular poly and diluted it down heavily with mineral spirits - about 60 poly/40 spirits and then applied multiple coats and sanding in between. It penetrated deep into the wood and has resulted in a glass-smooth hard surface. When it is this diluted, bubbles can form so I need to be careful applying it but with a bit of care, these are minimized. Going to Harbor Freight to get an automotive buffer and a couple of bonnets and see what I can do.
There is an auction preview for a local machine shop tomorrow - see if there is anything worth bidding on.
