A commenter at Don Surber's website this morning:
A: Slavery is a situation where you are forced to work for a master, in return you get housing, food, healthcare, and job security. It is typically bad housing, meager food, and pathetic healthcare, but it is free. Freedom is unknown to slave, he must obey or suffer.
B: Socialism: You are forced to work for those in power. In return, they give you food, housing, healthcare, all free. It is meager food, terrible housing, and horrible healthcare, but it's free. Freedom is unknown to a socialist citizen, he must obey or suffer.
What we have today are a bunch of B's screaming foul about the history of A's, while those same B's want to enforce an A lifestyle on the world for our own good. I would try to make this clear to a dyed in the wool socialist college student, but I believe in the philosophy, "never argue with a fool, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."
