Here's what happens when you fail to maintain your infrastructure.
The money is soo tempting to earmark for social gimme's but...
From Yahoo News/NY Times:

A Water System So Broken That One Pipe Leaks 5 Million Gallons a Day
JACKSON, Miss. — On an abandoned golf course, overgrown with shrubs and saw grass, you can hear the rushing water from 100 yards away.

Near Hole 4, past the little bridge and crumbling cart paths, what looks to be a waterfall comes into view, pouring down through the brush and into the creek below. Except the torrent of water gushing up through the mud isn’t from a spring-fed stream or a bubbling brook.

It is spewing from a broken city water line.

Yes, it's THAT Jackson, Miss. From CNN August of 2022:

The water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, has gotten so bad, the city temporarily ran out of bottled water to give to residents

Life in Democrat-run urban America. Their water crisis has faded from the media as the Democrats do not want their failures brought to light. The poor residents are paying their property taxes and utility bills and are not receiving drinkable water.  Instead, the city "leadership" is virtue signaling with all sorts of festivals and parks.

Bread and circuses. From the entry:

"Bread and circuses" (or bread and games; from Latin: panem et circenses) is metonymic for a superficial means of appeasement. In the case of politics, the phrase is used to describe the generation of public approval, not through exemplary or excellent public service or public policy, but through diversion; distraction; or the mere satisfaction of the immediate, shallow requirements of a populace, as an offered "palliative." Its originator, Juvenal, used the phrase to decry the selfishness of common people and their neglect of wider concerns. The phrase also implies the erosion or ignorance of civic duty amongst the concerns of the commoner.

Got to love the phrase: "diversion; distraction; or the mere satisfaction of the immediate, shallow requirements"
Perfect description of how to make a liberal voter happy.
Worked since the time of Christ.

Are we expecting too much of the modern citizen?
Maybe it is time to bring back the poll tax and a very stringent registration process.
Want to participate in our government?  You have to work for it...
