Life in the pacific northwest

I would move if I didn't love this place so much.  Two headlines:

The first one is about how Seattle taxpayers are paying for alternative ways to consume heroin for homeless people.  Great - people who can afford $50-$100/day for their habit but they depend on us for all the rest of their free shit. We need to bring back the county asylums and work farms. Move them out to the boonies - 100 miles from any city of any size, put them through a supervised medical detox program and then put them to work growing their own food. Don't work? You live on prison loaf until you change your mind.

The second one is from Portland.  The take-away line is this:

“We knew that we were going to have a violent protest last night,” he said. “We knew about it early in the week. We’ve been talking with local police, local government for support to ensure that we were going to be safe — and ultimately they didn’t have the resources to deal with this group that came through.”

From a business owner in the area.  Everyone knew that this was going to happen.

If they actually caught the perps.  Arrested them and then kept them in prison until their trial. If they actually handed out appropriate sentences and carried them out, all of this would dry up and blow away in a few days.  It would no longer be "fun" for the 98% of useful idiots participating and the 2% "activists" would be found out and locked away for nice long sentences.  They would not be a martyr, they would be shown to be stupid deluded little narcissists. Public opinion goes a long way with these people and getting a poor one will cause them to re-think their life's work.
