Rot at the CDC - Gun Control? Seriously?

They are missing the point here - from The Daily Wire:

CDC Now Targeting ‘Gun Violence’, Restarts Research Program On ‘Epidemic’ Of Firearm Deaths
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has branched out from issuing COVID-19 recommendations and its director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, now says that the health services agency will be restarting its dormant “gun violence” research program in order to address the “epidemic” of firearm deaths and injuries.

Walensky made the announcement in a sit-down interview with CNN where she noted that, for the first time in “decades,” the CDC will weigh in on the issue of gun control.

“Something has to be done about this,” Walensky told CNN. “Now is the time — it’s pedal to the metal time.”

People who murder another person in cold blood are mentally ill. Textbook definition.  Same for people who take a gun and randomly fire it off into a crowd of people.

Something that Ms. Walensky is not "getting" is that there are more legal privately-owned guns in the USA than their are citizens.  If Guns were the problem, we would all know it. Untreated mental health is the problem.  This is firmly in the CDC's wheelhouse and yet she is not addressing this, she is pointing directly at guns. The guns are only the tool.

It is interesting in that the Democrats own this problem too.  We used to house people in asylums but "activists" decided that this went against the "rights" of the mentally ill so many of the asylums were closed down. The problem began under President Kennedy's watch with the Community Mental Health Act of 1963. A bit more here and here. Time to reverse this bad policy.

Again, this is something that the Democrats did because it "sounded" good - not that it "did" good. These programs did not have the intended outcome.  They made life much worse for the mentally ill so the Democrats doubled-down and increased funding and made things even worse instead of disbanding their efforts and trying something different.
